Update: Earthquake hits region near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on July 31 – 5.0 magnitude detected

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake struck close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Thursday afternoon.

The tremor, which rattled the area at 06:00 UTC (17:00 local time), was centered about 167 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
