The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Matsue Tuesday morning.

The tremor struck the area at 01:37 UTC (10:37 local time). It occurred at a depth of 17 km with the epicenter situated approximately 20 km south of Matsue.

Weak shaking was observed in and around the Iwakuni area, where several people reported experiencing the tremor, according to the USGS DYFI report.

A magnitude 5.7 quake was detected in the region over the last week; it occurred close to Yasugichō prior to this quake.
