ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Attu Station on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 2:28 a.m. (2:28 p.m. local time), a tremor struck the region at a depth of 6 miles, with its epicenter approximately 147 miles east-southeast of Attu Station.

Nearby area hit by two tremors over the week

In the past week, there have been two tremors above magnitude 2.5 centered in the same area. The largest, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake, jolted on Sep. 4, while the other, measuring 3.2, was reported on Aug. 30.
