Weather alert in place for Southeast Colorado until Thursday midday

On Thursday at 7:57 a.m. a special weather statement was released by the National Weather Service until 11 a.m. for Southeast Colorado.

“Scattered showers, along with a few embedded thunderstorms, will continue move south and west across Kiowa, Prowers, Baca, Bent, Otero, and eastern Las Animas counties through the late morning. These showers and storms will bring periods of heavy rain, along with strong winds of 40 to 50 mph. Watch out for ponding of water on roadways and pockets of low visibility due to the heavy rain and gusty winds,” explains the NWS.

The full list of affected locations includes:

• La Junta Vicinity/Otero County

• Eastern Las Animas County

• Western Kiowa County

• Eastern Kiowa County

• Las Animas Vicinity/Bent County

• Lamar Vicinity/Prowers County

• Springfield Vicinity/Baca County
