Update: July 17 – 5.3 magnitude earthquake registered close to Sand Point, AK

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—A 5.3 magnitude quake was reported near Sand Point Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 2:09 a.m. (6:09 p.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 22 miles with the epicenter located about 56 miles south-southeast of Sand Point.

The National Tsunami Center issued a Tsunami statement related to the earthquake, please visit tsunami.gov for the latest information.
