The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 9:57 p.m. on Tuesday valid for Wednesday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The watch is for Inland Jackson, Inland Matagorda and Coastal Jackson as well as Madison, Burleson, Brazos, Washington, Grimes, Colorado, Austin, Waller, Wharton and Fort Bend counties.

Expect winds to be northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph and relative humidity as low as 12 percent.

“Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected across portions of Southeast Texas. northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph alongside relative humidity values in the teens on Wednesday will lead to elevated to critical fire weather conditions,” according to the NWS. “Any wildfires that start could rapidly increase in size and intensity, and move quickly.”

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
