Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake strikes near Neiafu, Tonga on March 7

NEIAFU, Vava’u — A 5.0 magnitude quake jolted near Neiafu on Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which rattled the area at 18:04 UTC (06:04 local time), was centered roughly 169 km northeast of Neiafu. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.
