ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — Wednesday morning, a 5.9 magnitude quake was reported close to Nikolski, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 8:57 p.m. (9:57 a.m. local time), was centered about 57 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. It occurred at a depth of 11 miles. The magnitude was originally reported as 6.0 but later downgraded to 5.9.
