Update: Earthquake measuring 7.3 devastates area near Sand Point, AK on July 16

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—A 7.3 magnitude quake was recorded near Sand Point Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 8:37 p.m. (9:37 a.m. local time), the region was devastated by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 12 miles, with its epicenter approximately 54 miles south of Sand Point.
