Update: Earthquake measuring 5.1 strikes area close to Scotia Sea on June 30

A 5.1 magnitude quake was recorded close to Scotia Sea Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 12:12 UTC (09:12 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter near Scotia Sea.

Scotia Sea area hit by two earthquakes over the week

Two earthquakes above magnitude 6.1 have been registered in the region during the past week. Each was centered in the same area with the more significant — a 6.6 magnitude event — occurring two days earlier. The second, a 6.5 magnitude tremor, slammed on June 28.
