A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Noda on Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 08:07 UTC (17:07 local time), a tremor hit the region at a depth of 57 km, with its epicenter roughly 50 km east of Noda. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.

Quakes last week

In the past week, there have been two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5 centered in the area. The larger one was a 5.1 quake that was recorded near Miyako prior to this quake. The other, of magnitude 4.6, occurred close to Kuji on Jul. 8.
