Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 jolts area close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on July 26

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Saturday afternoon.

At 05:50 UTC (16:50 local time), the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 23 km, with its epicenter about 168 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
