Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 hits area near Bitung, Indonesia on Jan. 13

A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Bitung Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which rattled the region at 18:58 UTC (03:58 local time), was centered approximately 128 km east-southeast of Bitung. It occurred at a depth of 46 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
