According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Vilyuchinsk Tuesday afternoon.

At 04:53 UTC (15:53 local time), the area was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 54 km, with its epicenter roughly 110 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
