At 5:21 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an updated dust storm warning in effect until 7:15 p.m. for El Paso and Hudspeth counties.

“At 5:20 p.m., an area of blowing dust was over West El Paso,” explains the NWS. “Dangerous life-threatening travel.”

Locations impacted by the warning include West El Paso, East El Paso, Central El Paso, Northeast El Paso, Far East El Paso, Mission Valley, Chaparral, Clint, Horizon City, Dell City, Loma Linda, Santa Teresa, Vado, Anthony, Desert Haven, Hueco Tanks, Cornudas, Sunland Park, Anthony Gap and Indian Cliffs Ranch. This includes the following highways: Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 155 and 164. Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 1 and 47. Highway 54 in New Mexico between mile markers 1 and 12.

The NWS adds, “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
