Update: 7.3 magnitude earthquake rocks close to Sand Point, AK on July 16

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—A 7.3 magnitude quake was registered near Sand Point Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which hit the area at 8:37 p.m. (9:37 a.m. local time), was centered approximately 54 miles south of Sand Point. It occurred at a depth of 12 miles.
