Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake reported near Finschhafen, Papua New Guinea on June 28

FINSCHHAFEN DISTRICT, Morobe Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Finschhafen on Sunday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the area at 02:59 UTC (12:59 local time). It occurred at a depth of 77 km with the epicenter approximately 21 km northwest of Finschhafen. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.1.
