Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake registered near Sand Point, AK on July 17

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Sand Point Thursday afternoon.

A tremor shook the area at 1:12 a.m. (2:12 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 57 miles south of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 14 miles.
