Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Bouvet Island region on Aug. 5

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded close to Bouvet Island region Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 03:49 UTC (03:49 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter of Bouvet Island region. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
