As per the National Hurricane Center’s 4 am Friday update, Tropical Storm Alvin is currently at the Pacific Ocean, 445 miles south-southeast of the Southern Tip of Baja California. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, it is moving north-northwest at 10 mph.
“Gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Alvin is expected to degenerate to a remnant low on Saturday” analysts explained.
Yesterday (Thursday)
The system strengthened enough to get a name: Tropical Storm Alvin. It found new strength and had evolved from a tropical depression into a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph.
Hazards affecting land
Surf. Swells generated by Alvin will affect portions of the coasts of west-central and southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula during the next couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
