The Tropical Depression: Saturday, Sept. 19 progress report from the National Hurricane Center

System type: Tropical depression

At 4 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that the tropical depression is in the Atlantic Ocean, 505 miles southwest of the Azores. Packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, the system is tracking to the north-northeast at 5 mph.

“The system is expected to generally move to the northeast for the next day or so, before turning toward the southwest in a couple of days,” forecasters observed. They also said “After that time, gradual weakening is expected to occur.”
