At 4 a.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory of the day for the system, reporting that Tropical Depression Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,145 miles west-southwest of the Azores. Packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, it is tracking south at 3 mph.

“A gradual turn to the southwest and then west is expected over the next couple of days, along with an increase in forward speed,” analysts wrote. They also said “Little change in strength is forecast over the next several days.”
