Strong third period wins it for Youngstown Phantoms against Chicago Steel

A tight game on Saturday, April 04, 2025 between the Youngstown Phantoms and the Chicago Steel wasn’t settled until the third period, when Youngstown scored the game-winning goal, ending it 5-3.

The Steel opened strong, early in the game with Jackson Crowder scoring in the first period, goal assisted by Ashton Schultz and Cameron Briere.

Kazimier Sobieski scored early in the second period.

Late, Henry Major scored a goal, assisted by Jackson Crowder, making the score 2-1.

The Phantoms made it 2-2 with a goal from Conner de Haro.

The Phantoms took the lead, only 51 seconds into the third when Matti Butkovskiy netted one, assisted by Kazimier Sobieski and Jack Hextall.

The Phantoms increased the lead to 4-2 with 01.41 remaining of the third period after a goal from Michael Mesic, assisted by Owen Lepak.

The Steel narrowed the gap to 4-3 with 42 seconds remaining of the third after a goal from Blake Vanek, assisted by Alex Calbeck and Arseni Marchenko.

The Phantoms increased the lead to 5-3 with 26 seconds remaining of the third after a goal from Ryan Rucinski, assisted by Matti Butkovskiy and Justin Kerr.

With this win the Phantoms have six straight victories.
