Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Gizo, Solomon Islands on Sept. 25 – 5.1 magnitude registered

GIZO, Western Province — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Gizo Thursday afternoon.

The tremor jolted the area at 08:53 UTC (18:53 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located approximately 291 km southwest of Gizo.
