Update: Earthquake jolts region close to the Mariana Islands on Sept. 22 – 5.1 magnitude reported

On Monday around midday, a 5.1 magnitude quake was detected close to the Mariana Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor hit the area at 03:59 UTC (12:59 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated south of the Mariana Islands and occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.0 event, but later upgraded it to 5.1.
