Sept. 19: Earthquake measuring 5.0 jolts region near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Friday night.

At 11:33 UTC (22:33 local time), the area was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 21 km, with its epicenter about 161 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
