Earthquake measuring 5.1 hits area near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Sept. 19

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake struck close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Friday night.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 11:25 UTC (22:25 local time). The epicenter was located roughly 135 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 33 km.

Over the last week, 10 tremors of magnitude 5.5 or greater have been registered in the area. The biggest, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, slammed the same region one day ago.
