Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake strikes near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Sept. 18

Thursday morning, a 5.1 magnitude quake was registered near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 20:06 UTC (07:06 local time). The epicenter was located approximately 161 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 10 km.

During the past week, there have been six tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or greater centered nearby. The biggest, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, shook the same area prior to this quake.
