A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 19:29 UTC (07:29 local time), the area was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 53 km, with its epicenter roughly 102 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.
