ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Akutan Friday morning.
The tremor hit at 3:48 p.m. (4:48 a.m. local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 39 miles south of Akutan and a depth of 47 miles. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.0 but later upgraded to 5.1.

Weak shaking has been detected and several residents reported experiencing the tremor in Unalaska and the surrounding area according to the USGS DYFI report.

Past week’s quake
Last week, there was one more quake of magnitude 2.5 centered nearby, which was also reported close to Akutan, six days earlier.
