Update: Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude reported close to Madang, Papua New Guinea on May 10

MADANG DISTRICT, Madang Province — A 5.3 magnitude quake struck close to Madang on Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 16:34 UTC (02:34 local time), was centered about 16 km west-southwest of Madang. It occurred at a depth of 93 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.
