Update: 5.3 magnitude earthquake reported close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday night.

The tremor shook at 12:44 UTC (23:44 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 132 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 35 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later upgraded to 5.3.
