TOCOPILLA PROVINCE, Antofagasta — Tuesday morning, a 5.3 magnitude quake was detected near Ollagüe, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor shook the area at 07:28 UTC (04:28 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 72 km west of Ollagüe and occurred at a depth of 115 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.

Weak shaking was observed in Iquique and the surrounding area, where several people reported feeling the earthquake, according to the USGS DYFI report.
