According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Honchō Monday morning.

At 22:07 UTC (08:07 local time), the region was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 119 km south of Honchō. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
