Update: 5.3 magnitude earthquake hits close to Mawlaik, Burma (Myanmar) on Aug. 22

KALE, Sagaing Region — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Mawlaik around midday Friday.

The tremor struck at 04:56 UTC (11:26 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 30 km south-southwest of Mawlaik and a depth of 10 km.
