Update: Fire weather watch affecting Arkansas River Valley and Fremont County Saturday – gusts may reach 45 mph

At 10:09 a.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for Upper Arkansas River Valley including Lake County and Chaffee County and Fremont County including Canon City/Howard/Texas Creek.

Expect winds to be west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity as low as 6%.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
