On Thursday at 5:41 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated red flag warning valid for Friday between noon and 6 p.m. for Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.

Residents can expect winds to be northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and relative humidity as low as 13%.

“A strong cold front will move through the area. Behind the front, winds from the northwest will be gusting in the 30-50 MPH range most of the day. In the afternoon, RH values will drop into the mid teens,” according to the NWS. “Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.”
