On Thursday at 5:41 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Friday between noon and 6 p.m. for Yuma County.

Expect winds to be northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 14%.

“A strong cold front will move through the area. Behind the front, winds from the northwest will be gusting in the 30-50 MPH range most of the day. In the afternoon, RH values will drop into the mid teens,” states the NWS. “Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.”

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
