An updated weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 7:07 p.m. for icy roads and snow showers until 10 p.m. The alert is for Southern Cayuga and Southern Oneida as well as Yates, Seneca, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties.
“Scattered snow showers, a few heavy at times will continue moving across the region this evening. Localized snow accumulations up to around 1 inch are possible. As air temperatures drop into the 20s any untreated roads and surfaces could become snow covered or icy at times. Use caution if traveling this evening as visibility and road conditions may change rapidly. Black ice is possible and can be very dangerous. Remember bridges and overpasses often freeze before other road surfaces,” states the NWS.
