The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Santiago Friday afternoon.
The tremor shook the area at 10:01 UTC (18:01 local time). It occurred at a depth of 65 km with the epicenter located approximately 47 km east of Santiago.

Over the last week, the region has experienced 16 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 7.4 magnitude quake, was recorded in the same region prior to this quake.
