Friday afternoon, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Santiago, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor, which jolted the area at 10:20 UTC (18:20 local time), was centered about 33 km east-southeast of Santiago. It occurred at a depth of 64 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.
