Update: Earthquake of 5.1 magnitude reported close to Hihifo, Tonga on March 7

NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.1 magnitude quake shook near Hihifo at midday on Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 00:44 UTC (12:44 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 100 km east of Hihifo.

Another tremor with a magnitude 4.9 was registered in the area. It too was detected near Hihifo on Mar. 28.
