System name: Gabrielle

The National Hurricane Center’s 4 a.m. Sunday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 455 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is moving to the north-northwest at 9 mph.

Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane today (Sunday).

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Gabrielle will continue to affect Bermuda during the next few days. These swells are expected to reach the

East coast of the United States from North Carolina northward, as well as Atlantic Canada, beginning later today and continuing through early this week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
