A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Xunchang on Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 02:08 UTC (10:08 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter roughly 13 km north-northeast of Xunchang.

Nearby area shaken by two tremors over the week

In the past week, two tremors exceeding magnitude 2.5 have been centered in the region. Both were registered in the same area with the stronger — a 5.0 magnitude earthquake — shaking on Jul. 8. The other, measuring 4.6, hit on Jul. 8.
