Update: Seismic activity on July 31 – 6.2 magnitude earthquake near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia detected

SEVERO-KURILSKY DISTRICT, Sakhalin Oblast — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 6.2 magnitude quake shook close to Severo-Kuril’sk Thursday afternoon.

At 05:27 UTC (16:27 local time), the region was rocked by a tremor. The earthquake rocked at a depth of 12 km, with its epicenter about 221 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.
