Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake hits close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on July 30

A 5.2 magnitude quake was detected close to Vilyuchinsk on Wednesday around midday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor shook the area at 00:48 UTC (11:48 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 126 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk and occurred at a depth of 35 km.

During the past week, the region has experienced five quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher, two of them larger than magnitude 8. The strongest, a 8.0 magnitude quake, was registered close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky one day ago.
