Update: Seismic activity on Jan. 15 – 5.3 magnitude earthquake southeast of Easter Island registered

EASTER ISLAND, Valparaíso — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred southeast of Easter Island Thursday evening.

At 03:31 UTC (20:31 local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter southeast of Easter Island of southeast of Easter Island. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.
