A tremor shook the area at 01:33 UTC (09:33 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 39 km west-southwest of Sangay and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
