Published Apr 16, 2025

The National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch at 2:07 a.m. on Wednesday valid for Thursday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. for Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.

Residents can expect winds to be southwest at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and relative humidity as low as 5 to 10 percent.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” describes the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
