The National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch at 7:22 p.m. on Sunday valid for Monday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Boulder/Jefferson counties below 6,000 feet/West Broomfield County and Elbert/central and east Douglas counties above 6,000 feet.

Winds are forecasted to be west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 9 percent.

“Near record temperatures on Monday, combined with another period of gusty westerly winds across the Front Range foothills will lead to elevated to critical fire weather conditions, especially from the Boulder county foothills south into South Park and the Palmer Divide,” states the NWS. “Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.”

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
